Julie Witczak, a middle school Communication Media Arts teacher and Mirror demo participant, interviewed some of her 7th and 8th grade students at Caruso Middle School, IL about using Swivl’s Mirror to support reflection after project-based learning activities.
Here were some of the responses:
What have you learned from using Mirror?
“Well from using the Mirror. I’ve learned that I need to be more positive and I need to be able to give better feedback. It’s also taught me what I should do to become a better person and to improve my work, so it’s pretty nice.”
And what do you like most?
“I like how it talks to you so it’s like you’re talking to a real person but it’s not a real person. You could say anything to them and they won’t judge.”
How has Mirror helped you?
“Mirror’s helped me a lot because I really don’t like writing for school projects and I much prefer being able to talk to it. I think it gives me good feedback and it makes my life a lot easier to not have to worry about writing a bunch of paragraphs for something that I spent a lot of time on already.”
What type of feedback did it give you?
“It gave me feedback I could use and it told me what I did and how well I did.”
What do you like about Mirror?
“I think it’s really good because I don’t like making journals and writing so I think Mirror is really good because you could talk through the questions.”
Okay and how do you feel like it’s helped you more than the journal writing?
“It’s helped us because we could really express how we feel about our projects without having to write it so I think we could really like like it just makes it much easier to talk about what you’re making.”
What’s the benefit of Mirror?
“I feel like it’s asking you different questions than it would on just a journal and that you’re just answering simple questions like what did you do in this project, how’d it go.”
“Yeah, I agree with that and I also think it’s making you answer the questions on the spot so it’s really testing you if you’re actually participating in your project or if you’re kind of just sitting there and saying whatever.”
